Baghdad - The head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, discussed with the British Ambassador to Iraq, Simon Collis, the mutual relations and the regional situation.

A statement by the SIIC received by AIN cited "Hakim received Collis at his office in Baghdad where he assured the readiness of Iraq to develop the mutual relations," noting that "Hakim assured that releasing Iraq from the Seventh Chapter of the UN's Charter to grant Iraq bigger role in the international and Arab communities in the next few years."

"For his part, Collis conveyed the appreciation of the UK to Hakim's efforts in bringing the various views closed and settling all the pending issue, expressing his happiness for relieving Iraq from the UN's Sanctions to achieve its sovereignty," the statement concluded.
