Iran's political meltdown has prompted Internet titan Google Inc. (GOOG) and social network giant Facebook to ramp up their translation services for Farsi, the San Jose Mercury News reported on its Web site Friday. Facebook released a beta, or test, version of its Farsi service Thursday, and Google added Farsi to its translation service Thursday as well.

Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's Facebook page has more than 8,600 fans, the Mercury News reported.
