MUSCAT: Gulf International Pipe Industry (GIPI), the first manufacturer of 8" to 24" high pressure carbon steel pipes in Oman, has commenced delivery of API 5L X52 (sour service) line pipes for Daleel Petroleum ahead of schedule.
Daleel is one of the leading oil producing companies in the Sultanate. The pipes supplied by GIPI are 18 metres in length and the first such pipe length to be supplied to customers locally and in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Senior management from Daleel visited the GIPI manufacturing complex in Sohar to witness the on-going production and loading of their consignments.
Daleel Petroleum is involved in exploration, appraisal and production of hydrocarbon reserves located in block 5, onshore Oman approximately 450km north west of Muscat. Moza Al Adawi, chief operating officer of Daleel Petroleum said; "We are happy to witness the pipes being manufactured, loaded, and dispatched to our site. We are proud to have supported a local manufacturer and pleased to see the high-tech facilities being operated with high regard to safety and professionalism from start to end."
Project execution
Also present during the visit was a representative from PDO Sultan Salim Al Owaisi. "I am overwhelmed to witness such a major development happening right here in the Sultanate. I have been in the pipe field with PDO and Shell Sarawak for many years and over the last 40 years we have been importing these pipes from all over the world. I am now happy to see such a facility in our own country and with its annual capacity of over 250,000 tonnes, it will no doubt contribute tremendously to local, regional as well as in the global arena," Al Owaisi said. The extended length of 18 metres pipe, rather than a standard length of 12 metres, significantly reduces the end user's construction costs by over 30 per cent on welding, and other associated costs, as well as substantial improvements in the speed of project execution.
Additionally, a local manufacturer brings other synergies to the customer on just in time delivery, less handling and related logistical challenges, also providing a cushion against any damaged products.
GIPI manufactures line pipe and casing pipe for application in the oil and gas industry, water casings, and commercial grade pipes for various applications in the construction as well as industrial facilities.
With a dedicated slitting facility, in-house internal/external coating facility, GIPI is a one-stop-shop for all piping needs in the region.
