Iran and Afghanistan signed an agreement under which Iran will export gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel to Afghanistan, deputy oil minister said.

Alireza Zeighami referred to the two countries' new round of talks in Tehran and said according to the initial agreement some 300,000 tons of oil products will be exported to Afghanistan, Mehr News Agency reported.

Zeighami said that diesel accounts for 70 percent of the total exports, adding "Gasoline and jet fuel will respectively account for 20 percent and 10 percent of the liquid fuel exports to the neighboring country."

The official noted that the agreement will be finalized in a couple of weeks at the presence of Iran's Caretaker of Oil Ministry Muhammad Aliabadi and Afghanistan's Commerce and Industry Minister Anwar-ul Haq Ahadi , adding " Afghanistan has voiced readiness for the annual sale of 2 million tons of oil products."

Iran is due to deliver the fuel required by Afghanistan in a 6-month period and directly from the country's giant oil storages, including Rafsanjan, Mashhad, and Isfahan, Zeighami said.

In February, former Iranian oil minister, Massoud Mirkazemi announced that Iran has become self-sufficient in the production of gasoline through the launch of new projects in its oil refineries.

Iran began export of gasoline to overseas market since gaining self-sufficiency in the production of this strategic commodity, announced head of Iran's Customs Office Abbas Me'marnejad in May.

According to Me'marnejad, about 6,100 tons of gasoline were exported from March 21-April 20 totaling over $5 million in export revenue.
