BRASILIA, March 1 (KUNA) -- Former Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Al-Jafaari lauded Kuwait's overall support to achieve peace and stabilityin Iraq, as well as rebuilding bilateral ties on the basis of respect and brotherhood.

Al-Jafaari made those comments Wednesday night during a telephone interview with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) while attending a celebration of national and liberation days at Kuwait's Embassy in Brasilia.

While expressing heartfelt congratulations to H.H. the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on these joyous occasions, Al-Jaafari said Kuwaiti-Iraqi ties were an extension of deeply-rooted relations between their peoples.

Actions of Saddam's regime against Kuwait created a gap in ties between the two nations, said Al-Jaafari, who added that the two countries' efforts since the regime's fall have contributed in turning over that page and working for a better future.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Brazil hosted a reception on the occasion of Kuwait's 46th National Day and 16th Liberation Day.

The reception, hosted by Kuwaiti Ambassador Waleed Al-Kandari, was attended by a number of ministers, officials, political figures, diplomats, businessmen and media members.

Speaking to KUNA, the ambassador congratulated Kuwait's leadership, hoping the nation would witness further prosperity and development.

The embassy received cables of congratulations from Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and several officials, which shows how significant Kuwait is to Brazil, added Al-Kandari.

On the celebration's sidelines, the embassy organized an exhibition that included publications on Kuwait in Arabic, English and Spanish, as well as clips showing Kuwait's art and folklore.
