AMMAN, Nov 28 (KUNA) -- Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) Chairman Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Sabah stressed the importance of FANA's 35th conference that kicked off here Wednesday.

Al-Sabah, Chairman and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), told reporters upon arriving to Amman to head the conference that the event aims to strengthen cooperation and coordination among Arab news agencies.

He expressed hope that the conference would succeed in serving the Arab media and Arab causes, pointing out that Kuwait will present its vision during the conference, in which 15 chairmen and directors general of Arab news agencies are participating.

Al-Sabah said he believes Kuwait did a good job while heading FANA, hoping that cooperation among Arab news agencies would continue.

On his part, Director General of Jordan News Agency (Petra) Ramadan Al-Ruwashda stressed the importance of holding FANA's conference regularly.

He said participants in the conference will discuss FANA's latest developments and activating joint agreements among Arab news agencies.

Participants will also choose the best report and photo, which will be broadcast by the agencies, he added.

Meanwhile, FANA Secretary General Fareed Ayyar said the conference will focus on issues that would develop the performance of Arab news agencies.

Sheikh Mubarak will head the first session in which papers and reports on developing the agencies' infrastructure will be presented, he added.

The conference will also discuss combating terrorism, Ayyar noted.

Ayyar praised Kuwait's performance as the head of FANA, highlighting that it succeeded in boosting cooperation among the federation's 18 members.

The conference is attended by chairmen and directors general of the news agencies of Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon, Morocco, Algeria, Sudan, Tunis, Mauritania, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates.

FANA was founded in 1964 and held its first conference in 1965 in Amman.
