ATHENS -- Following clinical studies carried out by the American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology (ACPN) on sleep difficulties on long-haul flights, Etihad Airways has developed comprehensive in-flight sleeping guidelines.

A core aspect of the new guidelines is the introduction of luxury, all-natural bedding from COCO-MAT (www.coco-mat.com) for its First Class passengers. Athens-based COCO-MAT is a leading manufacturer of sustainably sourced luxury sleep products.

Since July 2012, Etihad Airways has been working closely with a panel of sleep experts from the ACPN in Abu Dhabi to research ways to enhance sleep in-flight. ACPN is staffed by American board-certified aviation psychiatrists and neurologists and is renowned for its work in the field of aviation health.

As Etihad's exclusive, luxury bedding partner, COCO-MAT has designed a multi-layered sleep system mattress for the Diamond First Class suites to ensure truly restful sleep onboard. COCO-MAT's special bedding set also features a large down feather duvet and a luxury pillow.

The same dedication in providing a perfect night's sleep using natural, luxury materials is available to buyers of COCO-MAT mattresses and bedding products at their 70 sales outlets across the world.

The unique mattress for Etihad Airways is made from extracts of the Hevea tree, a healthier alternative to standard petroleum-based foams. This natural rubber is known for its elasticity and is perforated with tiny holes to create a perfect ventilation system, enabling the material to regulate body temperature.

The new bedding set features a 100 percent cotton fitted sheet and a large down feather duvet and pillow.  Etihad Airways said it is the only airline in the world to provide this bespoke product.
