American aviation surveillance company Era Systems Corp said it has been selected by the Oman Civil Aviation Authority to install surface surveillance systems at Muscat and Salalah airports.
The two systems, which will be installed under a contract from Northrop Grumman Air Systems, form part of the nationwide air traffic management modernisation and upgrade programme for the Directorate General of Meteorology and Air Navigation Services in Oman, according to a press statement released by Era's parent company SRA International.
Era will be supplying two multilateration surveillance systems (MSS), which are used by civil and military aviation operations to accurately pinpoint aircraft.
The contract comes as Muscat International Airport continues its redevelopment which will see its annual capacity increasing to 12mn passengers by 2014, with Salalah increasing its annual capacity to cater to 1mn passengers by 2014 as well.
