AMMAN — The Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) last Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship to exchange expertise in areas that relate to incubating innovative projects and monitoring business incubators, according to a ministry statement.

The MoU, which was signed by Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Muthana Gharaibeh and JEA President Ahmad Zoubi, involves the provision of a business incubator in Amman’s Marj Al Hamam area by the ministry, with the aim of promoting the concept of entrepreneurship in the engineering sector.

The MoU also outlines the ministry’s role in fostering entrepreneurs affiliated with the JEA, in addition to training entrepreneurs in the field within the incubator as well as seeking to connect them with potential investors, according to the ministry’s official website.

The incubator will also provide a coordinator to follow up with the entrepreneurial projects, the statement added.

Commenting on the memo, Gharaibeh said: “The ministry has directed its efforts towards harnessing all possible opportunities to support and facilitate the work of entrepreneurs.”

The ministry has accomplished this by implementing a number of initiatives aimed at providing what is needed for entrepreneurs, in partnership with the private sector and civil society institutions involved in supporting entrepreneurship in Jordan, he noted.

Among these initiatives is a project converting 40 knowledge stations into business incubators.

This initiative aims to provide workplaces for entrepreneurs across all governorates, in addition to offering free human resources services through ZenHR Company, and training and investment network services through the ministry’s website.

The MoU falls under the JEA’s strategy to support entrepreneurship, Zoubi said.

“The association works to develop and upgrade the capabilities of the engineering and technical cadres in Jordan, in addition to connecting them as much as possible with investors,” he stated.
