Ferrying Emirates’ passengers between the terminals and its aircraft at remote stands, ten of the new buses are already in service while 30 more will be delivered by January, the world’s largest airline by international passengers said.
The Dubai government-owned carrier is planning to increase its airport bus fleet to 128 by 2020.
“In line with our Fly Better brand promise, Emirates has taken the decision to invest in our own customised buses to transport customers airside at our Dubai airport hub,” Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ executive vice president and chief operations officer, told Arabian Business.
Emirates said it is the world's first carrier to offer airside buses that have equal standing and seating capacity.
The new bus fleet is set to be managed from a control room by Emirates’ airport services team together with its ground handling partner, dnata.
The bus fleet contributes to improving deployment efficacy and ultimately enhancing the customer experience with reduced waiting times, and more efficient routings at one of the world’s busiest airports, Emirates said.
The cost of the bus fleet was not revealed by the airline.
