Cairo – Egypt’s exports of crude iron and steel surged by 179% to $584 million during the first five months of 2021 from $209 million in the same period last year.

The Arab republic has exported iron and steel to about 70 countries worldwide in the January-May 2021 period, according to the monthly report by Export Council for Building Materials, Refractory, and Metallurgy Industries (ECBM).

Spain has topped the countries importing pig iron and steel from Egypt with $150.8 million, representing 25.8% of the total exports. Italy followed with $145.8 million worth of exports.

Saudi Arabia was in the third place with $66.03 million of crude iron and steel exports from Egypt.
