Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has made much progress in the national project for modernising and automating the customs management system as per the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in a bid to facilitate the trade movement, reduce the costs of importing and exporting, and cut the customs clearance time, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said.

The customs portal, Nafeza, has been developed into a new app to be accessed easily through smartphones to facilitate the process for importers and their agents, Maait added in a statement on Wednesday.

The minister stressed that no cargo will be allowed to the country through maritime ports except through the advance cargo information (ACI) system starting from 1 October, adding that export subsidies will be granted to companies that joined the ACI system only starting from next October.

The ACI system will help identify high-risk cargo prior to their arrival so that goods will be stored in the customs warehouses for a limited period of time which will help facilitate the trade movement and encourage the entry of new investments.
