Dubai: Radar detectors are illegal in the country and it is highly unlikely that these are in use in Dubai, assured a senior police official on Sunday. The official, who requested anonymity, said radar detectors are not available in the UAE and will not enter the country.
"The customs, ports and the airports check for such devices and they are immediately seized," the police official said.
He said the Department of Economic Development (DED) does not permit such radar detectors.
He said some time ago a man had tried to bring the device from a foreign country. It was seized at customs and handed over to the Dubai Police's Traffic Department.
He said it is illegal to use radar detectors and it is considered a crime according to Article 11 of the Traffic Law no. 21, 1995, and its executive regulations and amendments.
A source at the traffic department said some people had inquired whether the devices, which were advertised in websites, could enter the country as they were planning to order them.
The police made it clear to them that the devices were illegal.
Emergency alarms in public vehicles illegal
Article No. 11 of the Traffic Law stipulates: "Sound and light alarms similar to those installed in ambulances or any emergency vehicle are not allowed to be used in public cars. Unpermitted alarm devices are not allowed to be used as well."
Although the judge decides the punishment for it, it comes under Article 53 of the Penal Code of the Traffic Law: "Anyone found using a vehicle that does not meet the provisions of the Traffic Law with his knowledge could be sentenced to six months in jail and a fine of no more than Dh3,000 or both punishments."
