Dubai: Dubai has been named as one of the top 25 places to visit worldwide during the Traveller Choice Awards 2014 by travel website TripAdvisor.
The entry showed 646 activities to try in the emirate, such as the Shaikh Mohammad Centre for Cultural Understanding, The Dubai Fountain and Dubai Creek.
“2013 was a successful year for the emirate which saw further hotel and attraction openings, new events and milestones such as the announcement of our Vision for Tourism 2020 and the winning Expo 2020 bid,” said Issam Kazim, Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), in a statement.
Hotels that opened in 2013 include Conrad Dubai, Sofitel Dubai The Palm and the Oberoi. The emirate attracted more than 11 million guests last year, representing a 10.6 per cent increase over 2012.
Entertainment options are a focus for Dubai’s developers. IMG Worlds of Adventure, which will feature Marvel superheroes and Cartoon Network favourites, is expected to open by the end of the year. Meanwhile, a Six Flags theme park is likely to open in the emirate in 2017.
The winners were determined using an algorithm that considers the quantity and quality of reviews and rating of hotels, attractions and restaurants, which are gathered over a year.
