The market in Oman for post-tensioned concrete structures is steadily improving, according to two leading companies currently working on projects in the sultanate.
Speaking to Muscat Daily at the Building Supplies and Services meet on Tuesday, company executives said there is demand in the local market which could expand following the announcement of the 8th Five-Year Plan.
Post-tensioning is a relatively recent development which produces stronger concrete, chiefly through pouring concrete over anchored cables.
Tommaso Ciccone, CEO of Italian firm Tensacciai, which has built around 60 post-tensioned concrete bridges in Oman, and is currently working on the flyovers for the Muscat Airport project, said the market in Oman still has potential.
"We know there are tenders, so potentially of course there could be more jobs, but it depends on infrastructure activity. We started working here more than five years ago, so it is a good market for us," he said.
Santosh Nair, projects manager for SE Engineering, which has used post-tensioning on 11 projects including Knowledge Oasis Muscat's KOM4 building, believes the market is improving as more people are educated on its uses and advantages.
