Tehran - Head of Iran's CNG Association Ardeshir Dadras says in the light of the technical knowhow available in the country the first pilot national CNG compressor can be unveiled in the next year.

He said in the 10-year vision plan document for CNG industry it has been forecast that the number of CNG stations increase to 11,000 and gas fuelled cars to 8 million.

The official said if the document is implemented the share of CNG in the fuel basket of transportation will increase by 40%

Dadras noted that at present CNG stations consume only 4% of the country's gas whereas 25% of the National Gas Company is maintained through CNG.

He said for each cubic meter of CNG 55 cent would be saved in gasoline import, adding that in future some 8,000 new stations should be built for the operation of which a large number of compressors is needed.

At present some 60 to 70 percent of compressor parts are manufactured inside the country and efforts are underway to manufacture a national compressor in order to increase the share of domestic products.
