Sharjah, Nov 02th, 2012 (WAM)--A high-level Chinese delegation affiliated to the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), recently visited the Sharjah Art Museum and the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation.
The delegation, led by Dawei Liu, Member of CPPCC and Chairman of China Artists Association, was accompanied by Rui Long, Member of CPPCC and former President of the China National Academy of Painting, and XiaoYang Yang, Member of Shannxi Province CPPCC and President of the China National Academy of Painting. The Chinese delegates were received by Aisha Deemas, Director of Executive Affairs at Sharjah Museums Department (SMD), Maissa Al Suwaidi, Museums Services Manager, Salim Al Khayyal, Manager of the Communication and Development Department, and Yaser Al Amiri, Senior Tourism Executive at the Communication and Development Department, as well as the curators of the museums. The visit by the14-member delegation to Sharjah museums aimed to develop a deep insight into the UAE?s history and civilisation, especially in the fields of culture and fine arts. The delegates listened to a detailed presentation regarding the rare and valuable collections and artifacts on display at both the Sharjah Art Museum and the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation. They first toured the various halls and galleries at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization where they viewed its main galleries with their exquisite Islamic masterpieces and historical artifacts. The delegation then headed to the Art Museum where they were shown H. H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah's renown Orientalist collection and enjoyed the ongoing 'Lasting Impressions' exhibition of Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rais. Speaking on the occasion, Aisha Deemas, Director of SMD?s Executive Affairs, said "Sharjah museums are frequently visited by high-ranking officials from various countries across the globe, a fact that clearly recognises the Emirate?s rich record of landmark achievements and its place as the home of Arab and Islamic culture, a fact that has led to Sharjah having had the distinction of being named the Capital of Arab Culture for 1998, the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2014. It also most recently acquired the highly prestigious title of the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2015, a new landmark achievement to be added to the Emirate's and the UAE?s already impressive track record in this regard". She added, "We are extremely pleased to have been able to welcome the Chinese delegation, who was notably impressed with the scope of Arab-Islamic civilisation they saw and much inspired to explore possible avenues of collaboration between Chinese and UAE artists. The visiting delegation expressed its gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality it received from the Sharjah Museums Department. The delegation lauded the great attention given to Sharjah?s culture, heritage and art under the inspiring leadership of H. H.
