MUSCAT -- Construction will begin in earnest during the Q4 2013 / Q1 2014 timeframe on terminals for the import of cement and bitumen products, according to Reggy Vermeulen of Port of Duqm Company. Under an agreement signed earlier this year, Raysut Cement -- the Sultanate's largest cement manufacturer -- will set up a cement distribution facility at Duqm Port.

The facility will be designed for convenient bulk and bagged cement supplies.  Cement carriers will be deployed to ship the commodity to Duqm where it will be discharged either by ashore-based ship unloader or by pumping cement through shore pipelines. Likewise, the UAE-based Richmond Group, a regional leader in the distribution of bitumen products, will launch work on its Bitumen Terminal at the Port of Duqm during the same timeframe.  The terminal, set to be the first of its kind in the Sultanate, will also be equipped for value-added enhancement opportunities, said Vermeulen.
