Ultra Electronics Holdings, a London-based global aerospace and security solutions company, has been awarded an airport IT and systems integration contract worth RO127.5mn for the new terminals at Muscat and Salalah airports.
Speaking to Muscat Daily from London, Andy Hamment, group marketing director, said that the company will be involved as a master-system integrator for the new terminals at Muscat and Salalah airports.
"We have received a 'letter of award'. It is a RO127.5mn contract. Our work will involve supplying all electronic infrastructure, installing IT and security systems at the airports in Oman. It is subject to the final contract agreement which we expect to be signed in September this year."
Hamment said that the project work would commence with immediate effect, in about a week, and would be completed by 2015. "We will start mobilising the workforce for the projects with immediate effect as the Salalah airport is due to be opened in 2013 and Muscat airport's second phase of expansion is due to be completed by 2015."
The development of the airports at Muscat and Salalah will enable them to handle 48mn and 10mn passengers per annum, respectively. The Ministry of Transport & Communications has commissioned the development and the overall programme for both airports is scheduled to be completed by 2015.
Rakesh Sharma, CEO, Ultra Electronics, said, "I am extremely pleased that we have been selected for this contract. We have assembled a world-class team of companies that complement the IT systems and software that Ultra has developed over recent years."
"This award is another example of Ultra's ability to reach up the supply chain to deliver innovative solutions." The Ministry of Transport & Communications has divided the development works of the airports into eleven main contracts and the work related to the master-system integrator is the sixth main contract.
Earlier, the government had awarded a RO706mn contract in March this year to a joint venture between Bechtel, Bahwan Construction and Emke for the construction of the new departure terminal at Muscat airport, and a RO56.6mn contract to Carillion Alawi to build a new control tower.
Towell Construction also signed a deal worth RO25.7mn to build an administration block for Muscat airport.
