Mazaya Qatar Real Estate Development is expected to award the construction contract for its QAR 1.2 billion (USD 329.55 million) Marina Mall project at Lusail Development by the fourth week of August, a source close to the project told Zawya.

"The tender for the shopping mall project was announced in December, 2013 and the contractors had submitted their bids by the end of February, 2014. The main construction contract is expected to be awarded by 20 August 2014," said the source.

The winning contractor will build a shopping mall comprising a 10,000 square meter hypermarket at basement level and three additional floors offering 57,605 square meters of gross leasable area.

As part of the deal, the winning contractor will also construct parking facilities and additional retail space.

"The technical and commercial document evaluation has been completed and it's currently with the client to decide how many contractors he will want to negotiate and interview," the source said.

He said the bidders include Arabtec Construction LLC (Qatar), Construction Development Company LLC, Alec (Qatar), Midmac Contracting, Shapoorji Pallonji Qatar, HBK Contracting Co. (Ahmed Bin Khalid Contracting) and the consortium of Brookfield Multiplex and Medgulf Construction Company.

The Marina mall project is slated for completion by December 2015.

Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum Inc. (HOK Consultants) is the design consultant on the project, while Gensler Associates is the architectural consultant. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services will be carried out by Whitby & Bird (Ramboll Group).

In 2006, Lusail Real Estate Development Company (LREDC), on behalf of Qatari Diar, launched the USD 5.5 billion Lusail Development in the Qatari capital Doha.

Parsons won the program management contract for the preconstruction and construction phases of the Lusail Development.

When completed, Lusail City will feature 19 districts, a lagoon with two marinas, 25,000 residential units, commercial districts and mixed-use areas, retail areas, two golf courses, 36 schools, and a hospital, according to Parson's website.

The entire development is expected to be completed in 2018.
