MUSCAT -- Oman's foremost business house Suhail Bahwan Group and Royal Wagenborg Group of the Netherlands entered into a strategic alliance yesterday. The new venture would be known as Bahwan Wagenborg. Wagenborg is a strong multi-discipline provider of worldwide logistics services including shipping, stevedoring and warehousing, road transport and forwarding, special heavy cargo transport and mobile crane and assembly. The group is also into towage and maritime services, off-shore and supply services, passenger services, logistical projects, rig moves - new rig assembly, rig modi?cations and inspections, derrick packages, conduct piling and many other oil?eld services. The group provides tailor made logistical solutions that makes difference in a project.

Addressing the gathering Amal Suhail Bahwan of the Suhail Bahwan Group said: "Suhail Bahwan Group, which has been carrying out diversi?ed business activities since 1965, has strived to launch this new company in collaboration with Wagenborg Group, which has a long outstanding experience and has been maintaining the most comprehensive quality control since 1898." Rob Wagenborg and Egbert Vuursteen of the Wagenborg Group and Rajiv K Bhatia of the Suhail Bahwan Group were also present on the occasion. The partners of Bahwan Wagenborg combine has experience of more than a century and boasts a proven track record when it comes to multi-modal logistics projects.

Bahwan Wagenborg will execute its services using state-of-the-art equipment purchased recently from leading manufacturers in Europe operating from the base near the Port of Sohar with its head office in Muscat. The new venture will provide heavy lift transportation by SPMT, axles and heavy cranes, rig moving and management services, shipping services and oilfield management services. Some of the equipment to be used initially include: Scheuerle conventional Platformtrailers combined with heavy duty prime movers with an initial carrying capacity of about 700 tonnes. The Platform trailers are kept with all auxiliary equipment to allow to built all possible combinations including double wide trailers and dolly combinations.

Bahwan Wagenborg will also operate a ?eet of heavy crawler cranes in the region. This ?eet ranges from a 400 tonnes crawler type LR 1400 through 500 and 600 tonnes Demag cranes up to 750 tonne crawler type LR 1750. All cranes are equipped with full boom lengths (up to 180 metres hook height and the appropriate superlift attachments to enhance the lifting capacity. Along with the trailers and cranes, Bahwan Wagenborg is also equipped with a large number of certi?ed auxiliary equipment, such as supports, stools, ramps, beams, steel plates, spreaders, slings, shackles and a variety of miscellaneous rigging gear that is essential to carry out the job at a project site.

"A trained and specialised team of heavy transport and erection engineers based at Bahwan Wagenborg's Sohar premises will design and develop the transport solutions needed for challenging project requirements. The team will also ensure transport or lifting operation is executed safely and efficiently," said Rob Wagenborg. Commenting on the features of the new venture Egbert Vuursteen said:"The salient features of operations of the new venture would be specialised knowledge and expertise of the execution of turn-key projects, safe execution of projects, a broad and modern material ?eet, skilled and dedicated operators, drivers and assembly employees."Besides, the new venture would also offer innovative and experienced engineering and project management team and multi modal transport services.
