Aldar Properties has awarded Bahrain-based construction firm Cebarco-WCT a $350 million contract to build Abu Dhabi's F1 circuit.
The deal was announced by Cebarco-WCT's Malaysian parent company WCT Engineering in a statement to the Bursa Malaysia.
The racetrack will be situated on the southern side of Yas Island and is expected to complete by the end of next year in time for the emirate to host its first F1 Grand Prix in 2009.
Abu Dhabi has the F1 franchise on a seven-year renewable term.
In addition to the main circuit, Cebarco-WCT will also build all associated grandstands, facilities and buildings, as well as a dune buggy track, off road vehicle track, go-karting track and drag strip.
Yas Island is also set to feature a Ferrari theme park and several golf courses, along with hotels and a retail area.
Designed by F1 architect Herman Tilke, the main circuit will be 5.6 kilometres and consist of three distinct sections: high-speed areas ending in tight overtaking turns; a street section; and a marina section with a grandstand hairpin.
Tilke has worked on F1 circuits such as the ones in Bahrain, Malaysia, China, Korea and Singapore.
The Abu Dhabi circuit is the third F1 racetrack WCT has been involved in constructing. WCT has also built the Sepang F1 Circuit in Malaysia and the Bahrain International F1 Circuit, which were completed in 1998 and 2004 respectively.
