Arcapita Bank yesterday announced that it would fully cover the construction cost of the Bahrain Fort Museum. The BD1.5 million project is expected to be completed in about two years to become the second largest museum in the Kingdom after Bahrain National Museum.

During a meeting with the Crown Prince, Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Arcapita Bank chief executive officer Atif Ahmad Abdulmalik, accompanied by executive directors Mohammed Abdullah Nooruddin and Hisham Abdulrahman Abdullah, presented an overview of the project.

The Bahrain Fort, built in the 14th century, is considered a major archeological landmark in the Arabian Gulf region, combining the Dilmun civilisation, Islamic heritage, and Portuguese architectural style. Unesco has placed the fort on the World Heritage List.

"As a Bahraini institution, Arcapita has a responsibility to this country and citizens, not only to execute major economically beneficial projects, but also to support projects aimed at serving society," Abdulmalik said.

The Assistant Undersecretary for Culture and National Heritage, Shaikha May bint Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, who was selected in April by the Arab League as one of the 10 women in the Arab World for contribution to the cultural field, expressed happiness with the achievement, and thanked Arcapita for its support for the project.

"The Bahrain Fort Museum is a step towards the advancement of culture and national heritage," she said.
