August 2004
The Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce & Industry (CSCCI) and the JETRO Riyadh Office in cooperation with the Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME) have planned to send a Saudi Auto-ID (Automatic Identification) Mission to Tokyo in September.

The Mission, which is due to leave Riyadh on 12th September, will be in Tokyo, for one week. JETRO and JCCME will arrange the schedule in Japan according to the interests of participants. JETRO Investment Advisor will accompany the Mission.

During its visit this Mission will visit Auto- ID EXPO 2004 in Tokyo, (http://www.autoidexpo.com/tokyo/summary.php?lang=en), where its members can see the latest technologies of the various fields of Auto-ID, apart from visiting several Japanese companies to develop new areas of business.

Expenses (air fare, hotel, meals, visa fee etc.) for the visit are to be borne by participants. (Hotel costs approx. US$180- US$200 per night). Saudi businessmen who would like to join the mission may contact JETRO by 18 August 2004. Please contact: Mr. O.K. Hassan, JETRO Riyadh Office, E-mail: hassan@jetro.org.sa, Fax: 4761815, Tel.: 4784393.

The domain of automatic identification technology is growing in significant area such as ubiquitous computing, traceability and medical support.

Accordingly this mission could be very significant for the businessmen of the various fields.

One of the most unique functions  of Auto-ID is traceability. By using IC tag, (Integrated Circuit tag) senders can trace the products and recognize where they were and they are now.

Meanwhile, receivers can trace and date back the history of the products. (Please see "IC Tags replace barcodes" page 17, SAUDI COMMERCE & Economic Review, July 2004 issue). At the same time, checkers can write in or rewrite the data of IC tag, which is different from the conventional bar code.
