New York, March 29 (Petra)

Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Hanan Ashrawi asked the international community to act immediately to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

She also asked to stop the Israeli unilateral moves, saying they "hamper the chances for peace".

Ashrawi told UN Radio Wednesday night that "the implications of such a situation are drastic, not just for Palestinians, but for the whole region and for the whole world".

The PLO official also underlined the need to abide by the international law and terms of reference, remove the Jewish settlements and respect Palestinian rights. Ashrawi accused Israel of using negotiation as a means to evade responsibility and accountability and impose a fait accompli situation that contrasts with the goals of the peace process.

As for the effects of Palestinian division with respect to the basic Palestinian demands in international forums Ashrawi said, "we confirm that we are not talking about the division as a choice but as a weak point in the Palestinian situation, and we recognize its effects on the international community and on our stance in facing external challenges".

Ashrawi visited the UN Headquarters in New York to participate in the meeting of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
