Global Engineering Systems FZC, a Sharjah-based total environmental engineering solutions provider, has formally launched the innovative technologies of AnoxKaldnes in treating wastewater. A presentation on the various technologies offered by the leading Norwegian-Swedish group with a worldwide presence was organized at the Falcon Ballroom, Le Meridien, Dubai. It highlighted the advantages of these processes and their need in the environmentally conscious UAE market. Terje Andersen, COO & MD, AnoxKaldnes, Norway, was present at the event, along with Arun Kumar Sekhar, MD, Global Engineering Systems FZC.
AnoxKaldnes is the patent and trademark holder of the revolutionary technology called 'Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor,' or MBBRa. This has fast become the choice of design engineers the world over. There are several reasons. An MBBR plant needs only a fourth of the area of a conventional plant, a great advantage in the context of rising real estate prices. It is also the best and most cost-effective technology in the world today for capacity augmentation of existing plants, with minimum or no civil works. MBBR plants also have great flexibility in handling varying capacities, shock loads and variation in influent water characteristics.
More than a dozen sewage treatment plants are operating with MBBR technology in the Middle East now, and more will soon be functional. A research-based and technology focused company, AnoxKaldnes has other innovative technologies as well. These include Low Sludge Production (LSPa), Biofilm Activated Sludge (BASa), Hybrid Biofilm Activated Sludge (HYBASa), LagoonGuarda, etc.
The Dubai presentation started with an introduction of Global Engineering Systems' activities by Sanjay Parekh, Sales & Marketing Manager. A detailed technical presentation on the various technologies was given by Flemming G Wessman, International Sales Manager.
The technologies of AnoxKaldnes have come to be regarded as a necessity within the two years that the firm has been in the Middle East through Global Engineering Systems, their exclusive licensees. The region's fast-paced growth - rise in incomes and a boom in construction coupled with a population explosion makes capacity augmentation of many plants an urgent task. Existing and prospective customers find the AnoxKaldnes technologies the best suited in the context. "To augment capacities, it costs a fraction of what any other process would cost," said Wessman. "The response from the clients and consultants for our technologies has been very encouraging."
And a state of the art plant can be built with AnoxKaldnes know-how at the cost of conventional plants. "It is indeed the best selling factor for our plants," he added.
Manikath Narendran, General Manager, Global Engineering Systems, said the technology would be made available to all serious manufacturers of sewage and effluent-treatment plants. Many consultants keen on the AnoxKaldnes technology want to be assured that all regular players are able to offer it and Mr.Narendran categorically stated that in a major policy announcement, the two companies have decided to make the technology available to all the players in the market thereby ensuring that clients get the best deal.
Global Engineering will continue to remain the sole licensee of AnoxKaldnes in the region. As an extended arm of AnoxKaldnes, the company will act as a technology provider to all waste water treatment plant manufacturers in the region and ensure that clients get the best value for money and a wide choice of plant suppliers.
AnoxKaldnes is seriously considering a proposal to start a UAE-based centre of excellence for MBBR and other technologies. The centre will cater for the needs of the Middle East and South Asia. COO Andersen feels this would greatly enhance the market penetration of AnoxKaldnes.
