Abu Dhabi, April 21st, 2007 (WAM) -- Abu DhabiWater and Electricity Authority (ADEWA) opened on Thursday tenders submitted by international bidders for theFujairah independent power and water project(Fujairah 2).

The second-phase development of the Fujairah power and desalination complex calls for the addition of 2000 MW ofelectricity and 130 million gallons of water a day.

ADEWA Chairman Sheikh Diyab bin Zayed Al Nahyan said''The tough competition shown by international developerson the strategic project is yet another addition to the successesmade by ADEWA's privatisation programme.

''Day after day, the strategic option of the governmentof Abu Dhabi to privatise water and power sector has proven success,''he said, noting that Fujairah 2is the eighth project in the context of ADEWA's privatisationprogramme.

He disclosed that four internationalconsortia had line up for the power and desalination complex which will be financed by a group of local, regionaland international banks and financial insitutions.

''The winner will acquire 40 per cent stake of the project and will finance, build and operatethe plant,''he added.
