Shops in Dubai are doing a roaring trade in copycat products that cost a fraction of the price of originals.
The perfumes, trousers, bags and other goods look similar to the originals but are not counterfeits.
Customers sometimes have to pay as little as one tenth of the price of big brand-name goods. Examples include bags with a picture of a blonde doll on them with the name "Beauty" instead of "Barbie".
Shop owners have made clear that the products are not pretending they are the original item.
The Department of Economic Development has intensified its campaign against dealers and shopkeepers selling fake or duplicate products.
It is also revising penalties and considering to include imprisonment and deportation for violators.
