On the basis of the instruction of the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giulio Terzi, as a follow-up of the meetings he held in Tripoli on November 6 with Mohamed Al-Magharief, the President of the Libyan General National Congress, and the Libyan Prime Minister, Dr Ali Zidane, on Thursday, 24 Libyan citizens wounded in the recent clashes in Bani Walid were flown to Italy on an Italian military flight taking off from Maitiga airport.
This initiative falls within the framework of the agreement of January 2012 between the Italian Prime Minister, Mario Monti, and the former Libyan Prime Minister, Abduraahim el-Keeb. The beneficiaries will be receiving medical treatments at the San Camillo Hospital, in Rome.
Analogous humanitarian initiatives were taken in 2011, allowing hundreds of wounded Libyan citizens to receive medical treatments in Italian hospitals on the basis of a specific cooperation programme funded by the Italian Government as a concrete sign of the close ties of friendship and solidarity between the two Countries.
