RIYADH: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) topped the list of favorite holiday destinations where Saudis enjoy spending quality time during their holidays. Sources revealed that the number of Saudi visitors to the UAE in 2015 marked a new record number with one million, as was confirmed by Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Bishr, Saudi ambassador to the UAE, on Sunday.

The envoy made this confirmation while talking on the Oloum Al Dar Economy program on Abu Dhabi TV.

The UAE makes Saudi visitors "feel at home," the envoy said. Al-Bishr went on to add that these visits were prompted by the social relations, common traditions and customs between the people of the Kingdom and the Emirates.

He also cited the services and safety provided by the host as the main reason behind the attraction of the Saudis to the Emirates, especially Dubai, which has several attractions such as shopping malls and entertainment cities which draw Saudis to this beautiful city.

Moreover, political turmoil in neighboring Arab countries has served to encourage Saudis more than ever to visit Dubai. Referring to current economic trends, travel assessments and forecasts, a leading tour company in the capital said Dubai will continue to remain a top choice for Saudis, adding that their number is expected to almost double by 2020.

The UAE is increasing in terms of popularity on tourism scale and Dubai tends to attract a huge number of tourists because of its efforts to promote tourism based on the vast list of festivals and other attractive events. For example, the Saudi National Day was celebrated with great zeal in the city recently, drawing even more Saudi tourists to the city.

The attraction of Dubai and the UAE in general is not limited to tourists from the Kingdom, as the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in Dubai recently revealed that Dubai received 14.2 million tourists in 2015, indicating a jump of 7.5 percent from 2014.

Saudi Arabia was ranked first for having the largest number of tourists in Dubai, followed by the United Kingdom and India, it added.
