BEIRUT: The fourth insurance conference for the Mediterranean countries wrapped up its meeting at the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut Tuesday with new recommendations designed to enhance the performance of insurance firms. The Mediterranean Insurance Association and the Arab Insurance Federation, which organized the event, underlined the need to spread awareness about the goals of the two associations. Organizers and participants said attention should be focused on the high international caliber and specialized institutions on insurance should be set up. They called for integration between all insurance firms in the Mediterranean and Arab states. Some of the speakers said the youths who join the insurance firms should undergo intensive training so that they can keep abreast of the latest developments. Among the recommendations at the conference were funding research and studies in the field of insurance in order to contribute to the economic growth in these states. Economy and Trade Minister Mohammed Safadi said his ministry intends to submit a new plan to streamline the Lebanese insurance sector and pledged a series of measures to ensure better transparency. – The Daily Star
