BEIRUT: The Union of Electricity Workers called off a strike scheduled Tuesday after the Energy and Water Ministry approved a draft to preserve the rights’ of employees and clients and vowed to include it on the Cabinet’s agenda, according to the state-run National News Agency. Earlier this month, the union threatened to hold protests at all Electricity of Lebanon (EDL) departments after the head of EDL’s Jounieh division, Butros Farah, was severely beaten up by a client whose electricity supplies were cut off due to his failure to pay a number of electricity bills. The union said it will decide on further steps pending the vote of the Cabinet on the draft adopted by Energy and Water Minister Jebran Bassil. – The Daily Star
