MUSCAT -- A'aisha bint Abdullah Al Alawi, assistant to the director-general for housing projects at the Ministry of Housing, has said the ministry's projects related to social houses are progressing as per the approved plans.
She said the ministry has allocated over RO2.8 million as housing assistance in 148 cases during the first six months of 2009, while RO1. 9 million has been given as housing loan for the same period in 94 cases in the various governorates and regions. Execution of the housing projects as part of the social houses programme has faced some difficulties during the last period due to the continued hike in the prices of building materials, she said, adding that the ministry in coordination with the government department succeeded in awarding a number of tenders for constructing houses to a number of contractors. The coming period would witness endorsement of a number of housing loans and assistance cases, she said.
