BAGHDAD: Free Iraqiya bloc MP Alia Nsaif warned of mis-calculations in determining Iraqi-Kuwaiti territorial waters which will lead to 30-40 km loss from Iraqi waters.

In a statement by Bloc's media office, copy received by Aswat al-Iraq, that the committee entrusted to determine the borders will measure from the beginning of the land borders to the last maritime installation, while the Law of the Seas and international accords stipulated to calculate 30-40 km, or 12 nautical miles, after the last maritime installation.

"Bakr Port is the last maritime installation, thus it should be calculated from that site to another 30-40 km and be regarded within Iraqi borders", she confirmed.

She stressed abidance by the Law of the Seas in determining maritime borders between the two countries; otherwise, the committee will bear the responsibility of wasting 12 nautical miles of Iraqi territories.
