Recorded over 190,000 patient visits in Q1

Conducted over 940,000 lab test and 2,000 surgeries

Established Women Health Clinic and Urgent Care Clinic to swiftly meet patients' needs

Al Ain, 16, May, 2012: Tawam Hospital, in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine, today revealed that the hospital's facilities have recorded over 190,000 patients visits in the first quarter of 2012 (Q1Y2012). The primary healthcare units at Tawam Hospital recorded 75,645 outpatient visits, of which 32,425 were emergency room related, while Tawam clinics have registered a total of 92,773 visits and the dental unit at Tawam recorded 21,951 visits in Q1.

Over 2,000 surgeries were performed at Tawam in Q1; 1,470 Inpatient surgeries and 593 outpatients. Additionally, Tawam Hospital laboratories, including satellite laboratories and Wagan, have conducted 948,239 tests in the first quarter of this year.  

Admissions in Q1 registered at 5,863 with an inpatient occupancy rate at just under 82 per cent. Over 5,000 patients underwent CT/MRI scans while the physiotherapy unit received over 20,000 visits. Tawam Hospital also delivered over 1,000 babies in the first three months of the year.

Earlier this year, Tawam Hospital established the Women Health Clinic and Urgent Care Unit (UCC) to meet patients' needs and the rising demand for quality healthcare in the Al Ain region. The UCC unit has the capacity to treat 70 patients per day and after four weeks of operation, the UCC is reaching this daily goal.

The Al Wagan Satellite Nephrology/Hypertension/Dialysis unit, managed by SEHA Dialysis Services, was completed in Q1Y2012 and currently, four patients are being dialyzed three times a week. Furthermore, the newly renovated Surgical One unit was reopened with 38 beds, of which 36 are single rooms. The hospital also opened two additional recovery room beds in the Endoscopy Unit and designated four beds for day case surgeries at the Paediatric Surgical unit.

Furthering its commitment to the wellbeing of children in the country, Tawam Hospital introduced the stroke prevention screening protocol for children with sickle-cell disease, based on Transcranial Doppler Sonography, a diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound to assess the arteries located at the base of the brain.
