Cairo - Syria, Sudan and three Gulf Arab islands occupied by Iran but claimed by the United Arab Emirates will figure high on an extraordinary Arab foreign ministers meeting on Thursday, the Arab League announced on Saturday.
Deputy Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Ben Hilli said the ministers would take up the disputed islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb particularly after a visit last week to one of the islands by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in an attempt to come up with an Arab position on the issue.
Upon Khartoum's request, Thursday's meeting will also tackle the war between Sudan and South Sudan whose forces last week seized the oil-rich border area of Hejlej before Sudanese troops took it back by force, according to Sudanese authorities, although Juba disputed this, saying it withdrew under pressure from the United Nations.
