Hundreds gather at Consulate General of Pakistan in Bur Dubai to take part in flag ceremony

Dubai: A passionate gathering of Pakistan nationals in Dubai marked their country's 70th Independence Day on Sunday.

Mostly dressed in greens and whites, hundreds converged at the Consulate General of Pakistan in Bur Dubai to take part in the unfurling of the national flag.

Ishtiaq Ahmad, who has been taking part in the celebrations for 40 years said: "I eagerly await every year to come to the consulate to show my love and passion for Pakistan. This day reminds all Pakistanis the struggle and sacrifice our forefathers made to build the country and with unity we will only go from strength to strength."

Pakistan's acting Consul General to Dubai Samar Javed, after reading out the messages of the President and Prime Minister, said: "the Government of Pakistan is aware of the issues faced by overseas Pakistanis residing in the UAE and we willing to go to any length to resolve matters through proper channels."

He urged the expat Pakistanis to come forward and help the consulate in creating a better atmosphere of mutual cooperation, while calling on every individual to strive to create a positive image of the community.

He thanked the UAE leadership for their continued support and patronage of the community.
