Oman Air, the national carrier for the Sultanate of Oman launched its inaugural flight WY851 to Guangzhou, China on, 9 December 2016.  The chief guest for the event was HE Yahya Al Jabri, Chairman of Duqum Special Economic Zone.

The flight to Guangzhou is Oman Air’s first destination in China and the four times weekly flights will open up easy access to Oman Air’s outstanding range of destinations for customers from China as well as helping to strengthen political, economic and social links between Oman and China. 

The invited guests on the inaugural flight were treated to a day of celebrations with a cake cutting ceremony at Muscat International Airport before proceeding to Oman Air’s First and Business Class lounge.  The flight departed at 10.15 and arrived just over six hours later in Guangzhou at 21.00 where there was an arrival ceremony before proceeding to the Four Seasons Hotel.

There was a press conference the following day morning, where the invited media from Oman and China interacted with the senior management team of Oman Air. This was followed by a lunch and a gala dinner later in the evening at the Ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel where Oman Air CEO Paul Gregorowitsch, besides other high-ranking dignitaries from both Oman and China gave short speeches to mark the occasion before an exchange of gifts with officials from Guangzhou.

The launch of the new route is in response to significant customer demand and also demonstrates Oman Air’s commitment to continuing its ambitious and dynamic programme of fleet and network expansion and on board service developments. This has seen the company take delivery of outstanding new aircraft, introduce a range of exciting new destinations and launch new products and services which contribute to a seamless passenger experience.

The return flight WY 852 departs Guangzhou at 06.25 and is scheduled to arrive in Muscat at 11.00. Oman Air will run flights to Guangzhou from Muscat on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays using its wide-body A330. The planes take off from Muscat International Airport, Oman, at 10.15 and reach Guangzhou at 21.00. Oman Air flights depart Guangzhou to Muscat on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 06.25 and land in Muscat at 11.00.
