Bahrain is well-positioned to host MAN, one of the leading German automakers, the Vice-Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Ebrahim Zaianl told the German business delegation yesterday.

Zainal, who along with the other members of the board received the German delegation at the Chamber premises, told Dr Ing Wolfgang Knother and members of the executive board of MAN Forrostaal Aktingesellschaft that Bahrain has the capability to host the German automobile manufacturer MAN.

The delegation was on a state visit to Bahrain accompanying German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The delegates also visited Al Ezzel power plant construction site.

Dr Knother said that his company was looking at establishing a plant in the region. "We are very much impressed with the Kingdom's investment climate and keenness of the government to attract more foreign direct investments."

Zainal said: "Bahrain's strategic position makes it the best option to host the assembly or manufacturing plant of MAN. Close proximity with Saudi Arabia and the completion of Bahrain-Qatari causeway will help an easy access to millions of consumers not only in the Gulf but also in Iran, India and Pakistan. Bahrain is truly a gateway to the Middle East. Zainal said: "The tax-free regime for any industry, incentives, readily available manpower and no bar on the repatriation are competitive advantages for foreign investors. We look forward to host more German companies."

The board members Abduljalil Ansari, Jawad Al Hawaj, Sharif Al Ahmadi and Ebrahim Abdali Isa Aldaaysi also briefed the delegation.

Dr Peter Ammon, director general for economic affairs and sustainable development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the meeting with the Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr Hassan Fakhro was excellent and fruitful.

Earlier, the foreign Minister symbolically started a gas turbine - all four gas turbines have already been handed over to the customer. Al Ezzel is the first independent power plant in Bahrain and was ordered by Al Ezzel Power Company (AEPC) whose shareholders are Suez Energy International, the Gulf Investment Corporation and the Pension Fund Commission of the Government of Bahrain. The order value for Siemens is about 310 million euros.
