A German company signed a contract in Tehran on Sunday to provide the latest technical know-how needed for storing natural gas is south Tehran.

The contract was signed by on the sidelines of the 16th International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemicals Exhibition in Tehran, Fars News Agency reported. The name of the company and other details were not available.

tehran signed a similar deal with a French company in the past, but later annulled the contract after the French failed to fulfill their commitments.

Iran, which sits on the world's second largest reserves of oil and gas, is facing US sanctions over its civilian nuclear program.

Officials in Tehran have routinely dismissed the sanctions as ineffective, saying that they are finding Asian and European partners instead.

Earlier this week, a senior Iranian oil official had announced that the country is in talks with foreign companies to attract investments in the development of oil and gas fields.

"We are in talks with several foreign companies to attract $20 billion in investments," Managing Director of the National Iranian Offshore Oil Company (NIOOC) Mahmoud Zirakchianzadeh told reporters on the sidelines of the annual exhibition.
