Gulf Air has added two extra flights to and from Madinah to meet the increasing market demand.
Bahrain's national carrier will increase its frequency from four to six per week each direction starting from 19 May, offering 544 more seats, the airline said.
The extra flights offer more flight options for Saudi business travellers and visitors to travel to Bahrain, and more flights for Bahraini pilgrims, who now have more choices to visit the holy city, the airline said in a statement.
"The introduction of additional flights between Madinah and Bahrain emphasises the importance we attach to Saudi Arabia and our business strategy to concentrate on high-demand routes to ensure our core customer base is served effectively and efficiently," said chief executive officer Samer Majali.
"We have been flying to Saudi since 1950, and have been operating to Madinah since June 2010. Since then we have continuously expanded and strengthened our presence connecting customers from the far corners of the kingdom to the world through our network."
The airline also said it has reached the top position in its on-time performance (OTP) record as a full service carrier while it is ranked third in the overall list of carriers in the MENA region, including low cost carriers.
According to the latest figures for January 2012 released by flight information services provider FlightStats Data, Gulf Air achieved an on-time punctuality of 84.11 per cent for its flight arrivals, ahead of its main regional competitors.
The 2011 annual on-time performance ranking is expected to be released by FlightStats soon.
FlightStats has been monitoring airlines' on-time performance since 2004, tracking over 150,000 flights per day, nearly 80 per cent of all scheduled passenger flights globally.
