Dubai – Smart Dubai is gearing up to showcase its latest innovations and projects – as well as those of its affiliates and partners – at its stand during GITEX Technology Week 2017, which is taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre on October 8-12.

Brand new and highly advanced services will also be launched at the Smart Dubai stand – which bears the theme “Future Live” – where 42 different government agencies will be taking part under the Smart Dubai umbrella, and showcasing more than 200 smart government services, targeting Dubai’s residents and visitors alike in an effort to realise the leadership’s vision of making Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world.

Her Excellency Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of the Smart Dubai Office (SDO), said: “The Smart Dubai pavilion at GITEX Technology Week 2017 was meticulously designed to reflect our ambitious objective of building the future here and now, all in collaboration with our private- and public-sector partners." "Visitors to the pavilion are in for an eye-opening journey that blurs the line between human and technology," Dr Aisha added, "where they will leave with a deeper understanding of the smart technologies of the future, which form the backbone of the Smart Dubai Plan 2021, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council." H.E. Dr Aisha then went on to explain: "We will have a live broadcast where we will not only showcase futuristic technology, but also the human experience resulting from the innovative use of said technology. Our applications and services are tailored to the needs of the people in Dubai, helping us implement the UAE Vision 2021 and make the Emirates the smartest and happiest country in the world."

Smart Dubai Plan 2021

Smart Dubai’s pavilion sheds light on its six objectives, which are smart mobility, smart environment, smart governance, smart society, smart economy and smart life. Smart Dubai will go over the many performance indicators associated with the Smart Dubai Plan 2021, which aims to make Dubai’s economy more competitive, innovative, integrated and digital.

To that end, the SDO set out to achieve a number of key goals, such as: building a city that provides a smart, seamless lifestyle to its people; facilitating an interconnected community that provides smart social services; streamlining shared, autonomous transport solutions; and ensuring a clean, sustainable and technologically advanced environment, as well as a highly efficient digital government.

Happiness Agenda

Smart Dubai will also be displaying its Happiness Agenda for GITEX visitors; the Agenda seeks to measure people’s happiness and, more importantly, improve it through a sophisticated framework that employs cutting-edge technologies to provide top-notch services to people – services that address people’s needs, be they basic, advanced, intellectual, sensory or empowerment needs.

Blockchain

Under directives from H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), the Foundation – along with the Smart Dubai Office – launched the Dubai Blockchain Strategy with the goal of making the Dubai Government the first in the world to conduct 100 per cent of its transactions via an online encrypted database by the year 2020.

The Dubai Blockchain Strategy revolves around three main pillars: First, increasing government efficiency by transferring 100 per cent of government transactions to the Blockchain network; second, strengthening industrial activity by creating a new Blockchain-based business model; and finally, securing Dubai’s global lead in terms of adoption and implementation of Blockchain networks and transactions.

Dubai Data

The Smart Dubai Pavilion at GITEX Technology Week 2017 will also shed light on the initiatives of the Dubai Data Establishment, which works to guide and coordinate the gathering and exchange of data between the public and private sectors. The end goal is to develop the economy of Dubai and empower the people by providing access to data and job opportunities.

Dubai Pulse

Dubai Pulse is the first stage of the planned Smart Dubai Platform, the digital backbone of the city. The platform acts as an interactive data board for the city of Dubai, accessible to the public, the business sector and all decision makers. It publishes up-to-date information about various metrics related to the city including traffic, transport, the economy, social welfare, healthcare, and education, in addition to innovative entertainment and tourism services, such as smart restaurants, aviation services and traffic systems.

Dubai Now

Dubai Now provides fast, seamless, and paperless services to the residents of Dubai allowing them to finish transactions and paperwork via smartphone without the need to physically visit government centres. The platform offers access to 55 smart services from 24 government and private institutions, making life easier for all residents and economising their time. It comes as no surprise, then that Dubai ranks high globally in all aspects of competitiveness.

Dubai Careers

The Smart Dubai stand also includes an overview of the Dubai Careers initiative – an innovative programme that is set to transform employment in Dubai. The portal provides job seekers from the UAE and the world with access to professional opportunities in Dubai Government agencies, with plans to expand to the private sector in the emirate at a later stage.

Artificial Intelligence – Saad

Saad uses the databases of various government and private entities in Dubai to offer official and reliable answers to customers’ questions, and provides them with the necessary procedures, steps, documents, and requirements to conduct their transactions. The service is designed to be accessible to entrepreneurs, business owners, and local and foreign investors who wish to establish a business in Dubai.

DubaiPay

Smart Dubai is additionally planning to showcase its secure online and smartphone payment gateway, DubaiPay, which supports e-payment solutions for both businesses and individuals from the private and public sectors.

Smart Employee Application

The Smart Employee smartphone and tablet application has been designed especially for Dubai Government employees. It can be used by all employees in government entities using Government Resource Planning Systems (GRPS), and provides a list of dedicated self-services, such as leave management services; absence and attendance records; payroll (obtaining information related to the pay, including pay-slips); team hierarchy and search for and contact of an employee.

Government Resource Planning Systems (GRPS)

The GRPS initiative is an integrated system of centralised technical solutions offered by the Smart Dubai Government Establishment (SDG) to all government agencies in Dubai, allowing them to handle all key internal government operations in the financial, logistics and human resources fields, including salaries, recruitment and asset management.

Dubai ID

Dubai ID was launched by the Smart Dubai Government Establishment in collaboration with the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) to install the necessary infrastructure for government agencies to be able to provide 24-hour access to its services for the public. Registering for Dubai ID provides automatic access to more than 600 services from 16 government agencies in Dubai with one username and one password.

Government Service Bus (GSB)

The Government Service Bus was launched as a standardised and secure integration platform, providing the necessary infrastructure to enable government entities to integrate their services together, where the platform works as middleware system between government application and provides a set of shared services such as Pro ESB functionality, as per international best practices.
