Dubai, UAE, 20 January 2015: Ducab, the Middle East's leading manufacturer of high-quality cables and cabling products, will highlight its diverse product range that enhances energy efficiency through its participation at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), being held in Abu Dhabi from January 19 to 22, 2015.

The presence at the exhibition will be aligned with the investment showcase by Ducab parent, Abu Dhabi's Senaat, which owns 50 per cent of Ducab alongside the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD). ICD, as the investment arm of the Government of Dubai currently has a portfolio that represents a cross-section of Dubai's most recognised companies, in sectors such as Financial services, Transportation, Energy and Industrial, Real Estate and Leisure, Retail and other Holdings.

Highlighting Ducab's participation at WFES, Eng. Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, Chairman of Ducab said: "As a leading name in the manufacturing sector in the UAE, it falls upon Ducab to lead the way to ensure the development of sustainable practices within the industry and beyond. A platform such as WFES is an excellent way for us to showcase our efforts and achievements, while at the same time learn from the groundbreaking efforts of others."

As the UAE focuses on developing sustainable energy sources, Ducab has cemented its reputation in supporting renewable energy projects by working alongside two of the largest solar power-generation projects in the region - Masdar's Shams 1 in Abu Dhabi, DEWA's 13MW solar plant in Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai (in collaboration with DEWA), and Barakah Nuclear Power plant (BNPP) in Abu Dhabi.

Ducab is the first cable company to secure the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification from BASEC in 1997, and since then has consistently increased access to many quality marks and certification in the areas of quality management, environmental management systems, and management of occupational health and safety systems.

Ducab has adopted Green Building regulations of Dubai and 'Estidama' Abu Dhabi requirements for the new manufacturing facilities built in the recent period. Ducab is a member of the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) and the Emirates Green Building Council (EGBC), and a founding member of the Dubai Quality Group (DQG). Ducab is also strategic partner to the International Copper Association, UAE civil defense authorities, and Emirates Authority For Standardization & Metrology (ESMA) to promote energy efficiency and design safety for electrical systems.

Sustainability at Ducab

Hassan Omar, Chief Operating Officer, Ducab, said: "Ducab invests in state-of-the-art machinery with regularly-audited precise calibration and synchronisation for minimal energy wastage. Material wastage is among the lowest in the industry (1.5% vs. the industry average of 7%) Ducab has installed equipment which allows recycling of raw materials such as copper, PVC and low smoke and fumes (LSF) compounds."

Product packaging from Ducab has been modified to ensure that it is reusable and returnable. Cable drums are collected back from end customers, reinforce them and re-use to reduce the landfill waste and to reduce environmental impact. Ducab has launched a scheme to support the sustainability efforts of our customers by taking back cable scrap for re-cycling purposes.

The firm has adopted "Lean Manufacturing" concepts to reduce/eliminate all forms of wastes from our processes. Ducab manufacturing shop floor and offices are fitted with energy efficiency LED lighting systems and water preservation systems.
