Dubai - DMCC, the Government of Dubai Authority with a mandate to enhance Dubai's position as the global gateway for commodities trade and enterprise, announced today that Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture ('AS+GG'), the world's leading supertall skyscraper architects, are to design the 'Burj 2020', the world's tallest commercial tower.
WATG, considered one of the world's leading destination creation consultancies, has also been appointed to deliver the Master Plan for its 'Burj 2020 District'.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, DMCC, said:
"AS+GG and WATG come with a wealth of global destination and tower design expertise. Designing a world-class destination of this scale will set new levels of efficiency and urban sustainability and we are confident that our partners, in delivering the 'Burj 2020 District' and tower, will create a new address for the global business community of the future, right here in Dubai."
Adrian Smith, internationally renowned architect and founder of AS+GG based in Chicago, has designed many landmark buildings including the two world's tallest structures - BurjKhalifa while at SOM completed in 2010 in Dubai and Kingdom Tower, currently under construction in Jeddah.
WATG was one of four reputed international destination creation firms that participated in DMCC's Burj 2020 District Master Plan design competition launched in July 2014. Other notable WATG projects include The Atlantis - Dubai, Paradise Island - Bahamas, Emirates Palace - Abu Dhabi, and the Grand Hyatt - Kuala Lumpur.
The WATG Master Plan aims to enhance the very essence of the 'Burj 2020 District' by creating an efficient and vibrant world-class urban business destination that will herald the next set of bold visions for Dubai's future.
Integrated with the Jumeirah Lakes Towers development, the 'Burj 2020 District' will be a mixed-use district providing a world class commercial, retail and hotel experience unique to the Dubai marketplace. The 'Burj 2020 District' will add some 1.3 million square meter capacity to the DMCC Free Zone, today the largest and fastest growing Free Zone in the UAE. www.dmcc.ae
