Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) hosted a workshop on the Dubai Smart Training Initiative launched by the Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) last April. The workshop was attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Executive Vice Presidents of DEWA, Dr Ahmed Al Nuseirat, Coordinator General of DGEP, along with directors, head of departments and employees of DEWA.

Dr Al Nuseirat stressed in his opening speech at the workshop that it is the first of its kind in the world and aims to build on the capabilities of human resources in government bodies and enable them to achieve excellence and adopt best standards in innovation, quality and distinguished government performance.

Osama Hammad from the Dubai Executive Council explained the objectives of the initiative and methods of implementing it, as well as the most advanced learning processes. At the workshop, a team from DEWA was trained on smart devices that allow employees to learn anytime, anywhere.

"We are firmly committed to improving collaboration and cooperation with DGEP as per the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to bring government performance to the best international levels. We aim from this workshop to continuously develop government work and innovative ways for performance to disseminate innovation and excellence among DEWA's employees. This initiative enhances the concept of life-long learning in government departments and deploys the latest technologies and tools to enhance the efficiency and convenience of learning. This assists government departments to raise the calibre of their employees to the best international practices adhering with DGEP standards," said Al Tayer.

"This smart training programme is a part of a range of initiatives by the Dubai Government Excellence Program to disseminate knowledge and awareness about Government Excellence and the model for government management. This is a simple method that conveys knowledge clearly and effectively, to government employees, anytime, anywhere. This will achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for Government Excellence to make Dubai a smart city with a smart government sector. This programme is the first of its kind in the world and has the participation of all government organisations in Dubai. At a later stage, employees from the federal government will also take part. We are happy with the level of commitment and focus shown by DEWA as demonstrated by its effective participation in the programme, with 350 employees attending within a very short period of time," said Dr Al Nuseirat.

The smart learning initiative organised by DGEP is yet another step in enhancing government work and achieving sustainable excellence, which DEWA is striving to achieve as per its Strategy 2014-2018 that is based on five areas: competent institutional capabilities and efficient Emiratisation, Excellence in smart services and operations, proficient cooperation with partners and stakeholders, strategic innovation, and sustainable results
