MUSCAT -- The Tender Board has announced the floating of a tender for consultancy services and supervision for a project to extend the Sultanate's continental shelf. The project, undertaken in favour of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, assumes special significance due to its contribution in tapping the benefits of oceans and seas in accordance with the respective UN agreement.
The Tender Board has set May 14 as the deadline for receiving the bids, which will be opened on the same day. The Sultanate had submitted its application for the project at the UN three years ago. A Continental Shelf Extension Committee, formed after a decision by the Council of Ministers, conducted a related study in co-operation with a New Zealand company (GNS) dealing in this field.
