The exhibition sector, which has seen a major surge in revenues in 2007, will contribute 10 per cent to the GDP by 2010, making it one of the vibrant sectors of the economy, a senior government official said.

Dr Hassan Abdulla Fakhro, the Minister of Industry and Commerce said that Bahrain Exhibition and Convention Authority would play a vital role in achieving this target.

The Minister said: "Exhibition industry and conference in the Kingdom of Bahrain have achieved great leap in their performance and the inference that achieved is a surplus in the proportion of the booking of Bahrain International Convention and Exhibitions and Centre (BIEC) that exceed 100 per cent for the next three years in the line with the major economic boom witnessed by the country and its approach to host exhibitions and attract major companies and visitors from all over the world."

In parallel the large turnout and huge boom, Dr. Hassan Fakhro, who is also Chairmen of BECA discussed to find efficient solutions  to rapid expansion of the Bahrain centre for International Exhibition and Conferences and increase its capacity to double the number of rooms and provide them with modern supplies required.

The Minister also mentioned the possibility of contracting with national carrier Gulf Air to be the official carrier for all BECA events.

Dr. Fakhro said that one of the most important objectives of exhibition industry success was the great support given to this vital industry by the government and worked to promote and develop this sector enhancing investment and commercial opportunities.

The result achieved by the authority during fiscal year 2007, reached BD15.542 million while the total number of exhibitors and international delegation about 11000.

The financial analysis of the authority's revenues projected to reach BD 25.78 million in 2008 while in 2009 to BD 34.146 million.

BECA marketing director Debbie Stanford highlighted upcoming events.

The authority achieved candidacy to be Vice Chairman of ICCA as well as to be President of the Council in 2008.
