ABU DHABI, 19th October, 2016 (WAM) -- Abu Dhabi International Airport, AUH, welcomed 2.1 million passengers throughout September, an increase of 5 percent over September 2015.

Since the beginning of the year, passenger traffic at AUH has grown 6 percent over the same period last year, with 18,528,723 passengers between January 1st and September 30th.

There were 352,067 departures in total, a 10.1 percent increase over September 2015.

According to the TradeArabia News Service website, passenger traffic to India grew by 10 percent, maintaining that country's position as top destination, with 355,328 passengers carried throughout September.

Passengers to Qatar increased by 18.4 percent compared to September 2015, while Saudi Arabia rose to become the third busiest destination, with traffic to and from the country increasing by 19 percent.

Traffic to and from Egypt rose by 37.9 percent to 57,885 passengers.
