-Turnout for region's largest consumer electronics show boosted by holiday weekend as thousands of visitors take advantage of spectacular deals on top tech brands-

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Tens of thousands of visitors descended on GITEX Shopper this weekend, taking advantage of the extra day’s holiday to snap up even better deals on top brand, on-the-spot promotions and the latest models and top retailers in the market. The Middle East’s largest consumer electronics and IT show opened its doors on Saturday morning, with retailers and top tech brands enjoying brisk business from the start. Located at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and running until Saturday, 8th October, GITEX Shopper has a mind-boggling 35,000 products on show this year, as well as a line-up of entertaining features that had the crowds gaming, dancing and spinning lucky wheels of fortune to win a myriad tech prizes, holidays, cash and cars.

Avinash Shanbhogue, Director of GITEX Shopper 2016, said: “It’s been retail mania on the show floor this weekend – having an extra day’s leisure has meant a real surge in visitors and an extra-busy time for our exhibitors. Sales of products such as the iPhone 7, and Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Note 7 had power retailers scrambling to keep their stands stocked, while promotions on laptops, tablets, SLR cameras Smart TVs and wearables drew crowds to every stand.

Mahesh Chotrani, Assistant Vice President, Jacky’s Electronics, said: “As expected the sales of the first two days at the show exceeded the sales of the same period last year. Sales of notebooks, smartphones, SLR cameras and smart TVs have been excellent since the show opened. We are offering between 10-40% discounts on the latest consumer electronics products to give our customers the best possible deals. GITEX Shopper has been always a success for us, our sales during the eight days equal the sales of three months in store. We are confident we will exceed our sales expectations once again."

Nadeem Khanzadah, Head-OmniChannel Retail, Jumbo Group, said: “This year’s GITEX Shopper opened on a very busy note over the long weekend holiday as visitors flocked to the show. Our offers received great responses particularly the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge that are bundled with AED 1,200 worth of Samsung original accessories and Virtual Reality (VR) headgears and the PS4 bundle worth AED 1,399 (1 TB console with two controllers and the new FIFA 17). In addition, the new product launches such as the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Sony Xperia XZ and the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 have been exceptionally well received and are driving increased customer traffic to the show. We are expecting the excitement to continue throughout the week.”

GITEX Shopper 2016 runs until Saturday, 8 October and is open from 11:00am - 11:00pm every day. This year, tickets for GITEX Shopper will be priced at AED 30 for the weekdays and AED 35 for the weekend. Entry is free for children below the age of five.
