KATHMANDU, 22nd April 2017 (WAM) - Lana Nusseibeh, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, concluded a visit, in her capacity President of the UN Women Executive Board, to Nepal.

The visit, made jointly with different UN agencies, aimed at following up the international organisation's activities there. The delegation included representatives from the UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS and WFP.

The delegation, headed by Walton Alfonso Webson, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Antigua and Barbuda and President of the UNICEF Executive Board, inspected the UN-sponsored programmes and initiatives in Nepal, aimed at enhancing community infrastructure, empowering women and promoting their engagement, especially after the earthquake, which struck the country in 2015.

Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh said the visit provided an opportunity to witness first-hand the operations carried by the UN family in Nepal and the level of coordination among the different UN agencies to re-build communities there, following the devastating earthquake.

She added that during her visit, she met with Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, Nepal's Minister of Foreign Affairs, and conveyed to him greetings of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh will head a delegation from the UN Women on a visit to India on 22-26 April.
